Theory Regarding Stretch Marks
We know that we all are prone to it and in fact ninety percent of pregnant women, seventy percent of adolescent females, and forty percent of the male population is being affected by it. What I am talking about are stretch marks but despite the fact that most of us really are susceptible and already are affected by it, we still could not pinpoint what really are the causes of them to appear on our bodies.
On the other hand, through the years, there have been many speculations and theories as to why we have stretch marks that even no matter how much we take care of our skin, it seems like they are bound to happen and are unavoidable. Here are the known theories as to why they think we are being affected by stretch marks.
Possible Or Known Causes
The only theory that somehow was said to be logical especially when it comes to explaining the formation of stretch marks in our bodies is that when we get our skin stretched up to the point where the cells are already breaking down, they develop due to the dramatic increase in the size of the tissue. The real stretch marks develop in the middle layer of our skin, or which is known to be the elastic layer, that is called the dermis.
It was said that the dermis is made up of fibers that is commonly known as the collagen that allow your skin to stretch and then shrink back into shape and if this layer of skin continues to stretch over a long time, elasticity breaks down and the skin tries to remedy the problem by increasing the amount of collagen in the over stretched area. This would then create the scars that we see on different parts of our bodies especially on the abdominal area, hips, underarms, and others because they are shown through the surface of the skin which is called the epidermis.
There were also some circumstances that lead our parts of our bodies to stretch and have these so-called scars to appear on the surface of the skin. One of which is pregnancy, which we all know enables us to have a large abdomen when we are carrying the baby but dramatically decrease its size after we deliver.
Another circumstance wherein we also could have stretch marks is right after we lost some unwanted pounds especially those that were really dramatic. That is why it is always best to not just go on a diet when you are trying to lose some weight, but also hit the gym to tone your body and create muscles. This would somehow prevent you from having stretch marks.
